Merit formula will be based on matric and first year marks: HEC announced
Higher Education Commission (HECT) has suggested to all Universities across the country that merit formula will be based on matric and first year marks.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has made it clear that due to the cancellation of Intermediate Part II examinations, admission in universities will now be given on matriculation and first year marks. The HEC also advised all universities in its recent statement that the new semester should start from September 15. It is clear that admissions to most universities will start from June, depending on the circumstances.

It is pertinent to mention here that the guidelines issued by the HEC do not mention that only matriculation and first year based universities will have admissions and the marks of the entrance test will not be included. So it would not be fair to say here that entry test numbers will also be included for the final merit. However, in the current merit formula, first year numbers will be counted for the first time instead of Intermediate Part II. Each university is autonomous and has the authority to formulate its own merit formula, so the merit formula of some universities may differ from that of other universities.

Following the announcement, most universities are expected to announce their admissions in June or July to finalize enrollment before September and begin their classes on September 15.
