New 5 year trade policy drafted

The Ministry of Commerce has drafted a new five-year trade policy.

Commerce Ministry officials say the new five-year trade policy is in the final stages, which will first be approved by the Economic Coordination Commission (ECC), after which it will be presented to the cabinet.

According to officials, the new trade policy has taken all stakeholders into confidence.

Officials say the new proposed trade policy sets a target of 26 billion in exports in 2020 and 31 billion in 2021.

According to officials, the export target is set at 35 billion in 2022, 40 billion in 2024 and 46 billion annually in 2025.

Besides, officials of the Ministry of Commerce have also proposed to form a committee under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan to implement the trade policy.

It may be recalled that the last three-year trade policy was introduced in the PML-N government in 2015.
