LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has decided to resume more trains after easing the lockdown due to corona virus.

According to sources, Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid will announce the resumption of more trains in Lahore tomorrow.

Sources said that the decision to resume more trains was taken due to the increasing number of passengers and in this regard Sheikh Rashid has completed consultation with the Prime Minister while convening a meeting of railway officials tomorrow for further consultation.

Sources said that the issue of restoration of trains has also been discussed in the meeting of National Command and Control Center.Security at stations will be tightened.

Security at stations will be tightened

On the other hand, guidelines for tightening safety measures in trains will be consulted while online booking, seat spacing and passenger monitoring procedures will be worked out.

Security measures will be tightened at all railway stations, while masks and measures will be put in place for railway staff, including ticket collectors, STs and police.

Trains will be operated under fixed SOPs: Sheikh Rashid

According to media, Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid said that 10 more passenger trains have been running since June 1, after which 40 out of 142 passenger trains will start running.

He said that the trains would run under the stipulated SOPs, along with booking through internet, booking offices would also remain open, adding that the closure of trains was causing a loss of money.

It is to be noted that train service including international and regional air operations was also closed across the country due to the lockdown due to Corona virus.

However, after the government eased the lockdown, it allowed a limited number of regional air operations and trains, after which the Ministry of Railways launched a limited railway operation from May 10.
