ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered to keep small markets across the country open on Saturdays and Sundays and also to open shopping malls.

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan heard the Corona virus suo motu notice case. In this regard, Additional Attorney General, Advocate General Sindh and Commissioner Karachi and other officials appeared before the court.

At the beginning of the hearing, the Commissioner Karachi told the court that some markets have been sealed for non-compliance with SOPs. On this, the Chief Justice directed Advocate General Sindh and Commissioner Karachi not to stop small shopkeepers from working.

If you close shops, the shopkeeper will starve to death instead of Corona. Open the sealed markets and explain to them instead of scaring them.

Chief Justice of Pakistan asked that all the markets are open except 5 big malls in Karachi? If the rest of the markets are open then why are the shopping malls closed?

The Chief Justice asked us to tell the logic, whether the epidemic has promised the governments that it will not come on Saturday and Sunday, whether the governments get tired on Saturday and Sunday. Does the sun rise from the west on Saturday and Sunday? We will give a written order to keep all the small markets open on Saturday and Sunday.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that the rush increases on Eid, markets should not be closed even on Saturdays and Sundays, you do not want to wear new clothes but want to buy others, many families wear new clothes only on Eid.

On this occasion, the court also ordered to open all the small markets across the country for the whole week while the court said in its order that according to the SOPs, all the markets will be closed at 5 pm.

The court also sought details of shopping malls in the city from Commissioner Karachi

Chief Justice of Pakistan remarks that shopping malls across the country are being ordered to open, SOP may be better implemented in malls.

The court directed the provinces to seek permission from the federation for opening shopping malls across the country. Details of the aid were also submitted to the court.
