Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has begun the process of releasing 2,000 Taliban prisoners.

According to a foreign news agency, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has said that he is ready for peace talks after accepting the Taliban’s offer of a three-day ceasefire.

A spokesman for the Afghan president said the decision to release the prisoners was taken in a spirit of goodwill and to ensure the success of the peace process.

It may be recalled that a ceasefire was announced by the Afghan Taliban on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which was welcomed by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
