The appointments of captain and head coach of Pakistan women’s cricket team will be renewed

The appointments of captain and head coach of Pakistan women’s cricket team will be renewed. Captain Bismillah Maroof and head coach Iqbal Imam were given responsibilities for the ICC T20 World Cup played in Australia in February-March.

Bismillah Maroof, 28, has represented Pakistan in 108 ODIs and as many T20 matches. She was captained until the World Cup, but due to injury she was unable to play in the ICC Women’s World Cup in Australia from February 21 to March 8.

On the other hand, head coach Iqbal Imam was also given responsibilities till the mega event. Iqbal Imam was made acting head coach for the series against Bangladesh last year. Iqbal Imam was the batting coach along with Mark Coles who played for Bangladesh. After the series against Bangladesh, Iqbal Imam was appointed head coach and now his term has also expired.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that there will be new appointments for the captain and head coach of the Pakistan women’s cricket team. The performance is being reviewed and a decision will be taken only after that.

Sources said that the performance review of the captain and head coach will be completed after Eid and the appointments will be decided in June.

If the PCB is not satisfied, new people will be brought forward, otherwise they will be given responsibilities for a longer period.

Sources said that the Pakistan women’s cricket team was scheduled to participate in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers in July, but the qualifiers were postponed due to the Covid 19, which has also slowed down the appointment process.
