An anti-terrorism court has sentenced Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tariq to death for killing a young man in a fake police encounter in Shah Faisal area of ​​Karachi.

The Karachi Anti-Terrorism Court has ordered the convict to pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the family of the slain youth.

The court acquitted other accused Abdul Waheed, Shaukat Ali and Akbar Khan involved in the incident.

It may be recalled that on January 20, 2018, the accused ASI along with other accomplices opened fire on a rickshaw in Shah Faisal Colony area of ​​Karachi, killing Maqsood and injuring his friend. Police described the incident as a robbery. Had given

Police said in a preliminary statement that the suspects opened fire when patrolling on Shara Faisal stopped a suspect rickshaw, after which an exchange of fire took place between the police and the suspects and four suspects were injured in retaliation. The accused were shifted to Jinnah Hospital, one of whom succumbed to his injuries, identified as Maqsood, while the other injured were identified as Rauf, Babar and Ali.

Police said the suspects used to loot citizens on Shara Faisal and target those returning from the airport.

Police later changed their statement and said that a civilian (Maqsood) was killed and rickshaw driver Abdul Rauf was injured in the firing while two accused including Ali and Babar were arrested.

After Maqsood’s death, his family accused the police of murder and the case of Maqsood’s death was registered in the complaint of the victim’s father Sher Muhammad.
