Solangi posted on his X (previously Twitter) account, “The government shall act against the people spreading this kind of fake news to create chaos.”

The letter included the erroneous claim that, starting on September 30, 2023, the government would outlaw the usage, ownership, and circulation of Rs. 5,000 notes across the nation.

Later, the Finance Division also released a statement, referring to the letter as containing “false information”.

The Finance Division issued a brief statement stating, “A bogus notification is being posted on social media regarding the prohibition on circulation of Rs5,000 currency notes with effect from September 30, 2023.

“This is bogus information, just so the general public is aware. The policy decision or action to stop the circulation of Rs. 5,000 notes does not exist. Such a circulation is still entirely valid.
