Pakistan is facing with the drastically increase in the active cases of the Covid 19 and facing its censorious effects on the health. The virus was first emerged in February 2020, declined in July but spiked at the end of the year. However, in March, the situation aggravated again. In just last seven days, 3,000 new cases were reported.

On Wednesday 3, 301 cases and 30 deaths were reported in the Pakistan. Due to this considerable increase in this pandemic of Covid 19, Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood in a meeting, attended by senior officials from the health and education department, announced that Educational Institutions will remain close till 19 April specifically in the areas where the pandemic is spreading quickly and the number of active cases is high including Islamabad.

It was decided that Secondary and Higher secondary Classes will resume on 19 of this month and board exams after May 24. Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood declared that classes I to VIII will remain closed till the 28th of April, online classes can take place but no physical presence during the session in the most affected areas and strict adherence to the precautionary standard operating procedures (SOP). Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said that the NCOC would review the situation on April 28. Classes IX to XII had been allowed so that the students could prepare for their exams. “The board exams will be held this year, but they will not begin before the third week of the next month [May 24],”

The minister told that the ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level exams will be held as per schedule. The universities would be requested to push back entrance exams and delay their admissions. He added that another 85,000 students were scheduled to appear for the ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level exams. “The number of students is quite less [as compared to the ones appearing for the board exams] and in our discussion with Cambridge, they assured us that the SOPs will be strictly followed,” the minister said. The number of cases in Sindh, Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan is relatively low. Sindh authorities announced that its schools will remain open as usual with 50% student attendance. He said that if the provincial governments wish to call teachers and administrative staff, they can do so.
