Fine ice needle graft: will melt and deliver medicine to the body

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Experts at City University of Hong Kong have developed a graft containing extremely thin and icy needles that will melt when inserted into the skin and the medicine released from them will enter the bloodstream.

In the initial experiments, living cells inside the graft were sealed and delivered to the body. The next and more practical models will replace the cells with different drugs. It should be noted that these grafts with very fine and small needles are called “micro needle patch” which is also being considered as a better and “painless” alternative to the current injection in the near future.

Frozen and icy patches, which have been aptly named “cryo micro needle patches”, are a new invention in this field.Like any other micro needle patch, this icy patch has needles only one millimeter long and one millimeter wide. Each icy needle will be filled with a medicine or living cells that will be specially arranged to enable them to maintain their correct and useful condition even in extreme cold. This icy patch with fine needles has been successfully tested in cancer mice so far.The inventors say that the “cryo micro needle patch” contains proteins, peptides, MRN, in addition to cells and drugs.
