Government decides to conduct new census

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar has said that the process of new census will start in September or October this year which will be completed by March 2023.

Briefing the media, Asad Omar said that there are many question marks on the 2017 census, however, it has been decided to release the results, at the same time it was decided that the next census should be conducted on an immediate basis. We will conduct the next census in the best possible manner in which all the provinces and civil society will be involved.

Asad Omar said the basic framework would be ready in six to eight weeks, a new census would begin by September or October, the 18-month process would be completed in early 2023, and the next elections would be on the new census.

Zoning can also be done before. Regarding the Sindh government’s objections to the 2017 census, Asad Umar said that the work was done under the supervision of the same provincial government which opposed the decision today. Whatever the outcome of the census, the provincial governments were fully involved. Neither in the province nor in the federation was there a PTI government at that time. If they do not accept this census, should 1998 be adopted.
