Heavy rains in Karachi flood situation, 2 children killed in accidents and incidents

KARACHI: It has been raining in Quaid-e-Azam city since last day while water accumulation on roads and power outages in many areas have increased the hardships of the people.

The monsoon system from the Bay of Bengal has engulfed the lower areas of Sindh, including Karachi, and several districts of Balochistan. It has been raining in Karachi since last evening. The city’s main markets, bazaars and malls are closed, while road transport is almost non-existent.

A 13-year-old boy died after falling into a pool of water near Musharraf Colony 500 Quarters. Edhi volunteers removed the body and shifted it to Murshid Hospital. A landslide occurred in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block-3, as a result of which several vehicles were buried but no casualties were reported. A 10-year-old child was killed and his mother was injured when a wall of a house collapsed in Shah Latif Town.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum rainfall of 177 mm was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadid from yesterday till 1 pm today. Landhi recorded 57 mm, Nazimabad 53.6 mm, Surjani Town 28.2 mm, University Road 8.6 mm, North Karachi 4.2 mm, PAF base Faisal 11 mm and Masroor base 7 mm.
