Punjab government ordered free burial in cemeteries
LAHORE: Chief Justice Lahore High Court Muhammad Qasim Khan has ordered the Punjab government to provide free burial in cemeteries.Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan has issued an 8-page written interim judgment for the hearing of a case. The Chief Justice has also included hadiths and international law as part of the judgment. The court ruled that the LDA must allocate cemetery space in private housing societies. Besides, the apex court has also directed the sub-registrar of properties to submit original documents at the next hearing. Further hearing of the case will be held on July 27.
The Chief Justice of Lahore High Court has said in his judgment that a citizen pays tax to the government for buying various items for the rest of his life. In the light of the law, steps should be taken regarding cemeteries. It is the responsibility of the government to bear the cost of burial of the concerned citizen. The administration should provide free transport to the cemetery for burial. In addition, the administration should take care of cemeteries and plant trees. He should also take steps in this regard.The apex court in its judgment further said that model cemeteries should be set up in 4 cities of Punjab immediately, City Silence Authority should be activated with full powers, educated persons in City Silence Authority
