As we know that, the mutual cooperation is necessary to survive for both the individual, and the societies. A country is based on one or more societies and these societies need mutual cooperation for prosperity and even for the survival.
We are going to start our topic by the quotation of a famous American Psychologist “Jonethan Haidt”, He says, “The most powerful force ever known on this plant is human cooperation a force for construction or destruction”.
The SAARC is also formed by keeping in view the benefits and fruitful results of the mutual cooperation as shown by its name. SAARC is the abbreviation of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. It consists on south Asian Countries. There are eight (8) members of SAARC which are Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka , Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives. Its head office is in Kathmandu, Nepal. Mr. Amjad Hussain Sial is the Secretary General of SAARC since 01-03-2017.
The main objects of SAARC are:
1. Welfare of south Asian People
2. Mutual Assistance
3. Cooperation with regional and national organizations
It was formed by Zia-ur-Rehman who was the president of Bangladesh at that time. It was formed in December 1985 and at that time it was known as the Regional Cooperation.
Like each and every organization SAARC also have a Moto. The Moto of SAARC is “Deeper Integration for Peace and Prosperity”. At the time of formation or even in 1987 when the name of Regional Cooperation was changed to SAARC, Afghanistan was not the member of this organization. It became the member of SAARC in 2005. The name of “Regional Cooperation” was changed to SAARC by a Bangladeshi Deployment Abdul Ahsan on 16th of Jan, 197 who was also the first Secretary General of SAARC.
Since the time of formation, there are nineteen (19)summits which has been held till now . The next summit of SAARC that will be held in 2020 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The 19th Summit of SAARC was held in Islamabad, Pakistan on 15-19 November 2016. In which India has not participated.
SAARC has a lot of importance regionally and globally as well for its member countries in order to make them prosperous, economically strengthen and a beneficial society for its population.
