On Tuesday, the US government offered 500 additional scholarships to Pakistani university students from flood-affected areas to help them complete their degrees.
At an event for women scholars held at the Higher Education Commission in honor of International Women’s Day, US Ambassador Donald Bloom made the announcement (HEC). The United States has provided scholarships to deserving but financially challenged students to attend top Pakistani colleges through USAID. The US government, in conjunction with the Higher Education Commission, has awarded more than 6,000 scholarships through the Merit and Needs-Based Scholarship Program. As part of the US government’s support for women’s higher education, 60% of these scholarships are awarded to women.

“International Women’s Day serves as a day to pay tribute to the contributions our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and daughters have made to society in the social, economic, cultural and political spheres.
