The original advertisement (Express Tribune, 26 October 2026)
Here is the notice exactly as printed. Always read the original before you apply.

Eligibility and qualification
✅ Nationality: Pakistani nationals only. Dual nationality holders are not eligible.
✅ Education: Intermediate, 2nd Class or Grade “C” (or equivalent).
✅ Skills: shorthand 80 w.p.m. and typing 40 w.p.m., plus a 3-month certificate in computer operations (MS Office). See the exemption below.
✅ Quota: Balochistan, open merit. The ad does not say “domicile”, but a Balochistan-quota post means you should hold a Balochistan domicile. Keep your domicile certificate ready.
❌ Not eligible: result-awaited candidates on the closing date (13 Nov 2026).
Government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and corporation employees must apply through proper channel.
The new one-time skill exemption (important for many candidates)
Point (j) of the ad says that, with Federal Government approval (Establishment Division O.M. No. 2/5/2026-BEFC/001, dated 22-10-2026), a one-time relaxation applies to posts up to BS-16 that need trainable skills such as typing, shorthand or basic computer proficiency.
In simple words: if none of the selected candidates holds the required certificates at the time of selection, the selected candidates can acquire the prescribed proficiency through departmental on-the-job training after joining, within the probation period. Their proficiency is assessed before confirmation, and failure to acquire it is dealt with under the probation and service rules.
What this means for you: if you are a good typist but missed the MS Office certificate, the ad leaves room for you. But the exemption applies “in case none of the candidates have any certifications”, so having the certificates and speed still gives you the safest position. Also, the shorthand and typing test is still held before the interview (see below), so practise.
Age limit and relaxations
Minimum age is 18. Maximum age is 30 years, including 5 years general age relaxation, counted on the closing date (13 Nov 2026). The ad then allows further relaxation in these categories:
| Candidates from Balochistan Province | 5 years |
| Released or retired Armed Forces personnel | 15 years, or the years actually served, whichever is less |
| Government servants with 2 years of continuous service on the closing date | 10 years |
| Persons with disabilities (PWDs) | 10 years |
| Widow, son or daughter of a deceased Govt. servant who died during service | 5 years |
| Any other relaxation | As per Government policy |
Note from the ad: if you qualify under more than one category, you get relaxation in one category only, whichever favours you. Relaxations are not added together. For example, a Balochistan candidate who is not in any other category can apply up to 35 years (30 + 5) on 13 Nov 2026. This sum is our reading of the ad, so check your exact date of birth on the portal.
Selection process
- Eligible applicants are shortlisted for an initial screening test (objective type).
- Then a shorthand and typing test.
- Then the interview.
No TA/DA is paid for appearing in any test or interview. The posts are governed by the NAB Employees (Service) Rules, 2025. The quotas have been calculated according to Federal Government policy.
How to apply online (checked on 27 October 2026)
1 Open nab.gov.pk/jobs. The page shows “Situations Vacant” with two listings (NAB HQ and NAB B) and a Download Advertisement and Apply Online link under each.

2 For the Islamabad HQ post, use the “NAB HQ: Steno Typist (BPS-14), Quota: Balochistan (02 Posts)” row and click Apply Online. It opens the NAB Recruitment Portal (recruitment.nab.gov.pk) sign-in page.

3 New candidates click Sign up and create an account with full name, email address and a password. Use an email you check daily, because the portal says you can “track your application status and download your roll number slip” from your account.

4 Sign in, find the Stenotypist post, fill in your details and submit before 13 November 2026. Do not wait for the last day: the site may be slow when many candidates apply together. If you get a technical problem, call 051-9220915 or write to website@nab.gov.pk during office hours.
Honest note: we did not create an account or log in, so we have not seen the application form screens inside the portal (which fields and documents it asks for). We only show the public pages above. Keep your CNIC, Intermediate certificate, domicile, shorthand/typing proof and MS Office certificate (if you have it) scanned and ready.
Second NAB ad on the same page: 1 post in Quetta
The official Jobs page lists two Steno Typist (BPS-14) ads: NAB HQ (2 posts), which is the one in the Express Tribune, and NAB B (1 post), a separate advertisement from NAB Balochistan, Shahrah-e-Gulistan, Quetta Cantt. Its PDF has the same qualification, age and Balochistan-quota rules and the same exemption, but with three differences:
- It says to apply online “within 15 days of publication” instead of a fixed date, so its closing date is earlier or near the HQ date. We could not see its publication date on the PDF, so check the portal.
- Candidates from far-flung areas of Balochistan may also send an application on the NAB format (without document copies) to the Additional Director (Admn), NAB Balochistan, Quetta, phone 081-9203461. The HQ ad does not allow this.
- The PDF includes an application format (name, father’s name, CNIC, date of birth, religion, gender, addresses, domicile and so on), which is a useful checklist of what to keep ready.
The ads do not say whether one person may apply for both. Ask the help desk if you want to try both.
What the ad does not say
- Salary: not printed. BPS-14 is the federal pay scale; do not trust any site that quotes an exact figure without a source.
- Gender: the ad does not limit the post to men or women.
- Test date and venue: not announced. They will come through the portal or NAB’s website.
- Application fee: none is mentioned in the ad. We could not check the form itself.
What to do and what not to do
- Apply only on nab.gov.pk/jobs.
- Practise 80/40 shorthand and typing now, because a test comes before the interview.
- Check your date of birth against the age limit on 13 Nov 2026.
- Government employees: ask your department for the NOC / proper channel early.
- Take a screenshot or note of your submitted application.
- Don’t post or courier a hard copy to the HQ. It will not be entertained.
- Don’t pay anyone for “guaranteed” selection or “inside” help.
- Don’t apply if your result is still awaited on the closing date.
- Don’t use unofficial links. The portal is recruitment.nab.gov.pk, opened from nab.gov.pk.

No. The HQ ad says applications received through post or hard copy will not be entertained. Apply online.
The new one-time exemption (Establishment Division O.M. dated 22-10-2026) allows selected candidates to acquire the skill through on-the-job training within probation if no candidate has the certificates. It is not guaranteed, so get the certificate if you can.
30 years including 5 years general relaxation, with 5 more years for Balochistan candidates and other category relaxations listed above (one category only).
The posts are on the Balochistan quota (open merit), so yes, you should have a Balochistan domicile. The ad itself says “Quota: Balochistan” and does not spell out the word domicile.
Yes: an objective-type screening test, then a shorthand and typing test, then an interview.
