Quick answer: On Friday 23 October 2026, BISE Lahore chairman Professor Badrul Salam said the board plans to run its matric and intermediate examinations through a digital system. The board says a digital-marking trial is complete, a pilot with 500 students is done and a mock test for 3,000 candidates comes next. BISE Lahore’s own notice (dated 7 October 2026) says “On-Screen Marking” (OSM) will start initially for four Intermediate subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Statistics. No exam dates, no full class list and no paper format have been announced yet. Last updated: 24 October 2026.

If you are a matric or intermediate student in Lahore (or a parent or teacher), the October 2026 headline “digital exams” can sound scary. This guide separates what the board has actually said from what is still unknown, so you do not panic over rumours.

What BISE Lahore announced on 23 October 2026
According to ProPakistani’s report of the Friday press conference on examination reforms, the board said:
- It plans to conduct its matric and intermediate examinations through a digital system.
- The trial of digital marking has been completed.
- Preparations at examination centres and colleges are complete.
- A pilot test with 500 students has been held, and a mock test for 3,000 candidates is next.
- Students are being informed about the process and examiners are being trained for online marking of answer sheets.
- First-year (11th class) results improved by 7%, and the chairman said this was seen across Punjab’s boards, not only Lahore.
Controller of Examinations Tauseef ur Rehman, State Officer Shehzad-ul-Hassan and Public Relations Officer Tahir Javed attended. (Different news sites spell the chairman’s name Badrul Salam, Badr-ul-Islam or Badar-ul-Islam; they refer to the same BISE Lahore chairman.)
What does “digital examination” actually mean for students?
This is the question most reports do not answer. Based on everything the board and the press have said since September 2026, the confirmed “digital” part is about how papers are marked and how the board handles paperwork:
✅ Confirmed in reporting
- On-screen (e-sheet) marking: your answer sheet is scanned, split into parts and checked by an examiner on a screen, from home, using a board-issued ID, instead of a physical marking centre (Eduvision, 2 Sept 2026; ProPakistani, 2 Oct 2026).
- Fewer errors: marks are totalled automatically and candidate details are hidden from the examiner, which officials say helps catch impersonation and cuts rechecking complaints.
- Online forms: exam admission forms are submitted online, and the board approved paperless student registration in June 2026.
What the board’s own notice says. Letter No. 512-RCO/BISE, LHR dated 7 October 2026, signed by the board’s Research & Coordination Officer and posted on biselahore.com, says that as per directions of the Punjab Minister for Education, the board is moving towards On Screen Marking (OSM) and “initially four subjects of Intermediate-level i.e. Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Statistics have been selected.” District-wise awareness seminars and training workshops (12 to 31 October 2026) are mandatory for head examiners, sub-examiners, principals, heads of department and one student per selected subject (nine participants per institute). Heads of institutions were told that attendance will be reported to higher authorities.

⚠️ Not confirmed: no source says students will sit the exam on a computer or tablet. The “pilot test with 500 students” and “mock test” described so far involve students writing on e-sheets that are then marked digitally. Until the board publishes a notification, assume you still write by hand in the exam hall and treat any claim of “online paper from home” as rumour.
“Four annual exams”: what does it mean?
ProPakistani wrote that the board will hold “four annual matric and intermediate examinations” digitally, while The Nation wrote “four matriculation and intermediate papers”. No report explains the number. Notably, the board’s own 7 October notice talks about four subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Statistics) for the first phase of on-screen marking. It is possible the press “four” refers to these four papers, but no source states that link, so treat it as our observation, not a confirmed fact.
Separately, here is what is known about annual exams: since 2022 BISE Lahore has replaced the old supplementary exam with a First Annual and a Second Annual examination, with the second held about six months later. Both fresh and failed candidates can appear. Students who fail four subjects can sit both but must clear the exam within three years. For matric (SSC) and intermediate (HSSC) together that means four annual examinations in a year (SSC 1st and 2nd Annual, HSSC 1st and 2nd Annual). That is also only our reading; wait for the board’s notification before relying on either explanation.

What to do now (karna / nahi karna)
✅ Karna (Do)
- Write neatly: your sheet will be scanned. Use dark blue or black ink, clear handwriting and stay inside the margins.
- Number every answer and part clearly (Q.2(a), (b)…): the sheet is split into sections and different examiners may check different questions.
- Do not write your name or roll number anywhere except the places meant for it.
- Keep your registration and biometric details correct (thumb impression is mandatory for 9th and 11th registration).
- Check biselahore.com and your school for notices; ask your school head, who has been told to attend the board’s awareness sessions.
- Teachers and schools: attend the board’s training sessions and brief students on the answer-sheet rules.
- Students of Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Statistics (Intermediate): watch the board’s On-Screen Marking video tutorial and ask your teacher about the seminar in your district.
❌ Nahi karna (Don’t)
- Do not buy laptops or tablets “for the digital exam”: nothing says students need one.
- Do not pay anyone for “digital exam registration” or “special forms”. Use only the board’s own site.
- Do not trust WhatsApp forwards with dates or new paper patterns until the board posts a notification.
- Do not use cutting, overwriting or crowded margins; scanned sheets make these obvious.
Context: Lahore 11th class result 2026
The announcement came the day after the Lahore board declared the Intermediate Part-I result: overall pass percentage 60.03%, which The Nation describes as up seven percentage points from last year. 165,245 candidates appeared and 99,191 passed; girls passed at 68.23% versus 47.32% for boys; pre-engineering had the top rate at 79.23%.
