How the calculator works
- Annualise. A monthly salary is multiplied by 12 to find the annual taxable salary.
- Find the slab. The annual figure is placed in one of the eight rows above.
- Apply the formula. Fixed amount for that slab + rate × (salary − lower limit of the slab).
- Divide by 12 for the monthly deduction, then subtract tax and your other deductions to get take-home pay.
Worked examples for 2026-27
| Monthly salary | Annual salary | Annual tax | Monthly tax | Monthly take-home |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rs 50,000 | 600,000 | 0 | 0 | 50,000 |
| Rs 75,000 | 900,000 | 3,000 | 250 | 74,750 |
| Rs 100,000 | 1,200,000 | 6,000 | 500 | 99,500 |
| Rs 150,000 | 1,800,000 | 72,000 | 6,000 | 144,000 |
| Rs 200,000 | 2,400,000 | 156,000 | 13,000 | 187,000 |
| Rs 300,000 | 3,600,000 | 416,000 | 34,667 | 265,333 |
| Rs 500,000 | 6,000,000 | 1,104,000 | 92,000 | 408,000 |
Example in words: a teacher earning Rs 150,000 a month has an annual salary of Rs 1,800,000. That falls in the third slab: Rs 6,000 + 11% of (1,800,000 − 1,200,000) = Rs 6,000 + Rs 66,000 = Rs 72,000 a year, Rs 6,000 a month.
What changed from 2025-26
The exempt limit stayed at Rs 600,000 and the first two taxed slabs kept their 1% and 11% rates. The Rs 2.2 to 3.2 million band fell from 23% to 20%, the Rs 3.2 to 4.1 million band from 30% to 25%, and two new bands (29% and 32%) now sit before the 35% top rate, which starts at Rs 7 million instead of Rs 4.1 million. Anyone earning above Rs 183,333 a month pays less than last year. Use the "Show 2025-26 tax too" switch above to see the difference for your salary.
