Quick answer: The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) gives a limited number of Danish Government Scholarships to non-EU/EEA students, including Pakistanis, for the September 2027 intake. It is a full tuition-fee waiver (MSc 2 years, BSc 3 years) and not a living allowance. There is no separate scholarship form: you apply for admission to an eligible programme. Master’s deadline: 1 February 2027 (DANS portal). Bachelor’s deadline: 15 March 2027, 12:00 noon CET (optagelse.dk). A EUR 200 application deposit applies to most non-EU applicants.

What the Scholarship Covers, and What It Does Not

Covered: tuition fees for the standard length of the programme, up to 30 ECTS a semester. SDU’s Faculty of Engineering lists non-EU tuition of about EUR 17,300 per year for these engineering programmes (a guideline that moves with the exchange rate). If that figure is still right for 2027, a full waiver is worth roughly EUR 34,600 over a 2-year MSc and about EUR 51,900 over a 3-year BSc. These are our own sums from SDU’s table; SDU’s newer programme pages show different per-semester figures, so the 2027 fee is not confirmed.

Not covered: rent, food, insurance, flights, residence-permit fees and books. SDU’s current scholarship page describes no monthly grant. Some older or third-party pages mention a monthly amount, but do not plan around it unless it is in your offer letter.

Keeping it: you must show satisfactory progress, normally 30 ECTS per semester. If progress is judged unsatisfactory, funding may stop for the next semester. Credits above 30 ECTS in a semester are not covered.

Eligible Programmes for September 2027

Master’s (MSc), 2 yearsSønderborgEngineering Physics; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Mechatronics; Software Engineering
Bachelor’s (BSc), 3 yearsVejleArtificial Intelligence; Computer Science; Interactive Technology Engineering; Software Engineering

This is SDU’s list for admissions up to and including 2027. SDU’s page shows a changed list from 2028 (Vejle MSc programmes added, Vejle BSc narrowed to AI and Computer Science), so do not copy older blog lists. SDU also says offers are campus-specific and can change from year to year.

Why the dates matter: the Master’s deadline is about three months away. Transcripts, verified course descriptions and an English test take weeks, so start now.

How Selection Works

  • Master’s: ranked on your bachelor’s grade point average, then an online interview with technical questions linked to the entry requirements. You are considered only if the scholarship programme is your highest priority among your SDU applications.
  • Bachelor’s: non-EU applicants are invited to the uniTEST (a multiple-choice test of critical, quantitative and linguistic thinking, no subject knowledge). The best scorers are interviewed once, with a few maths questions and a talk about your motivation.
  • Numbers are limited. SDU does not publish how many scholarships it gives, so meeting the criteria is not a guarantee.

English Language Requirements (Master’s)

SDU’s language page lists the following for the September 2026 intake. It does not restate them for 2027, so confirm for 2027 before you book a test.

TestMinimum
IELTS AcademicOverall 6.5, no band below 6.5 (IELTS Academic Online accepted)
TOEFL iBTTotal 83, with at least 20 in Reading, Writing and Speaking and 4.5 in Listening (Home Edition accepted; MyBest and TOEFL Essentials not accepted)
Cambridge EnglishC1 Advanced score 180 (C2 Proficiency also accepted)

The test must be no more than 2 years old, and SDU must be able to verify it with the test organisation before the deadline. Book your IELTS slot early, because winter slots fill up.

The EUR 200 Application Deposit: Read Before You Pay

  • Non-EU/EEA applicants pay EUR 200 before submitting the Master’s application and upload the email receipt. For Bachelor’s applications it is paid once a year however many programmes you choose.
  • If you are admitted, it is deducted from your first tuition payment. If you are not admitted, it is not refunded.
  • If you receive the scholarship, SDU’s Master’s page says it is refunded to your card after 15 June.
  • EUR 200 is a large amount in rupees, so apply only to programmes you would actually attend, and check the exchange rate on the day.

How to Apply: Step by Step

Master’s (Sønderborg):

1
Check the requirements
Open the programme page on sdu.dk and confirm you hold a relevant bachelor’s degree (EQF level 6). Final-year students can apply with proof of a pending degree.
2
Prepare documents
Official bachelor’s transcript and degree certificate in English, showing grades and ECTS/credits; verified course descriptions for the courses on the transcript; a self-assessment form if your programme needs one; proof of English. Documents must be verified by the issuing institution (stamp and signature).
3
Pay the EUR 200 deposit
Pay on SDU’s payment website and keep the email receipt.
4
Apply in DANS
Apply between 1 January and 1 February 2027. Choose the eligible Sønderborg programme as your top priority. Upload everything: SDU does not accept documents sent by email.
5
Watch the “Messages” tab
DANS shows requests for missing documents there. Check it often. Interviews are normally 19–27 February; invitations come after 15 February.
6
Accept in time
If you get an offer, accept in DANS within the time given (at least five days) or it is withdrawn.

Bachelor’s (Vejle): apply on optagelse.dk from 1 February to 15 March 2027, 12:00 noon CET, pay the EUR 200 deposit and upload the receipt, upload official English documents, and email the signed signature pages to bacheloradmission@sdu.dk before the deadline. Register for uniTEST by 20 March and sit it online from Pakistan. Students with an A-Level or HSSC background should first check how SDU assesses it (see below).

We read the public SDU pages only; we did not log in or submit any form, so the exact portal screens may differ slightly.

The Real Cost for a Pakistani Student

Free tuition is a huge help, but Denmark is expensive. Here is an honest picture (figures marked “guide” are not from SDU and are not confirmed by us):

ItemWhat to expect
TuitionWaived for the standard length if you win the scholarship (otherwise about EUR 17,300 a year, SDU guideline)
Application depositEUR 200, refunded only if you get the scholarship
Living costsOne guide puts a student budget at about EUR 800–950 a month (guide, not SDU). SDU points to studyindenmark.dk for a budget.
Residence permitFees go to the Danish immigration agency (nyidanmark.dk), not SDU, plus possible VFS/consulate fees. You must show you can pay for your stay. One guide quotes about DKK 7,426 a month (guide, not confirmed): check nyidanmark.dk for the current amount.
HousingSDU’s bachelor page guarantees housing only in Odense, Esbjerg and Kolding. Vejle and Sønderborg are not named there, so plan to search for housing yourself and ask SDU.
Insurance and flightsNot covered by the scholarship; budget separately

Add it up: for a 2-year Master’s you will realistically need savings or a sponsor for living costs and permit proof, even with a 100% tuition waiver. If that money is not available, the scholarship alone will not get you to Denmark.

Pakistan-Specific Checklist

  • Degree and transcript: ask your university for an official English transcript showing grades and credits, and get course descriptions verified. Pakistani CGPA scales vary, so keep the grading-scale page too.
  • HEC: the SDU pages we read do not ask for HEC attestation by name, but attested degrees are widely needed for visas abroad. Ask SDU admissions (sdu.dk/admission) what they accept before paying attestation fees.
  • Bachelor’s applicants: SDU assesses non-EU school qualifications under Danish guidelines, and its pages do not mention Pakistan’s HSSC or A-Level specifically. SDU offers a pre-assessment with a window of 1 October to 15 November the year before you apply, so ask now.
  • IELTS: book an IELTS Academic slot in time; the result must be verifiable before the deadline.
  • Passport: make sure it is valid for the whole stay plus several months.
  • No agent needed: applying costs nothing except the EUR 200 deposit. Nobody can “buy” this scholarship.

What Is Not Confirmed Yet

  • The number of scholarships SDU will give.
  • The exact 2027 non-EU tuition fee (SDU pages show different figures).
  • Whether the 2026 English-test thresholds stay the same for September 2027.
  • English-test rules for the Bachelor’s programmes (check each programme page).
  • Any monthly stipend: the current page lists none.
  • How SDU converts Pakistani CGPA or HSSC marks.

Karna / Nahi Karna

Karna:

  • Apply only through sdu.dk (DANS for Master’s, optagelse.dk for Bachelor’s).
  • Make the Sønderborg scholarship programme your top priority if you apply to several SDU Master’s.
  • Start transcripts, verified course descriptions and IELTS now.
  • Upload every document with the application: nothing can be emailed later.
  • Apply to other universities as a backup; the scholarship is limited.
  • Check your DANS “Messages” tab regularly.

Nahi karna:

  • Do not pay any agent or “scholarship fee”. There is no separate scholarship application.
  • Do not wait for the last week: verification of IELTS and documents takes time.
  • Do not apply if you cannot cover living costs and permit proof even without tuition.
  • Do not trust old blog posts with the wrong programme list or deadlines: use sdu.dk.
