Quick answer: Allied Bank Limited (ABL) has signed an MoU with the British High Commission Islamabad and the UK Government’s Chevening programme to fund two Pakistani scholars every year for three academic years, starting with 2027-28, for fully funded master’s degrees at UK universities. That makes six seats in total. ABL is described as Pakistan’s first locally funded Chevening partner. Important: there is no separate ABL form to fill today. The 2027-28 Chevening round is closed for Pakistan (the first two ABL scholars come from the existing applicant pool, as announced), and the next round is expected to open in August 2027 for study in 2028.

What to Do Right Now (4 November 2026)
Many readers will think “I should apply today”. The official Chevening in Pakistan page says “Closed for applications” and that applications for 2027-2028 are now closed. So, today:
- If you already applied in August-October 2026: do nothing extra for ABL. The announcement says the first two ABL scholars come from the existing applicant pool, so your normal Chevening application is the one that counts. Prepare for the interview window (March-April 2027 per the official timeline).
- If you did not apply: you cannot enter the 2027-28 round. Use the next 9 months to meet the rules (work hours, three course choices, referees, essays) and watch for the August 2027 opening.
- Do not pay anyone for an “ABL seat”. No such seat can be bought or applied for separately.

ABL Seats vs Normal Chevening: What Is Different
| Point | Normal Chevening | Chevening-ABL |
| Who pays | UK FCDO and Chevening partners | Funded locally by Allied Bank (as announced); still run under the Chevening programme |
| How you apply | One online Chevening form on chevening.org for your country | No separate ABL form announced. Same Chevening application cycle |
| Seats in Pakistan | No single public figure we could verify | 2 per year, 2027-28 onwards for three years (6 total) |
| Subjects | Any eligible UK master’s course | Announced focus: AI, technology, cybersecurity, digital transformation, economics, financial inclusion |
| Selection | Eligibility sift, reading committees, interview, results | Same Chevening process; first two ABL scholars from the existing 2027-28 pool. Extra ABL rules: not announced |
| Return home | At least 2 years after the scholarship | Chevening rule applies; any ABL-specific obligation is not announced |
Honest note: Allied Bank’s own page states the MoU, the 2 scholars a year, the three years from 2027-28, and “fully funded master’s degrees at leading UK universities”. The focus fields, the use of the existing pool and the August 2027 date come from the British High Commission announcement as carried in Pakistani media; on 4 November 2026 we could not yet find that statement on chevening.org or the British High Commission’s gov.uk news page. Treat those details as announced, not yet on the official web pages.
Timeline: Chevening 2027-28 (Closed) and the Expected 2028-29 Round
| When | What happens | Source |
| August 2026 | 2027-28 applications opened | Chevening timeline |
| October 2026 | Applications closed (country-page deadline, 11:00 UTC) | Chevening timeline |
| Mid-Oct 2026 to Jan 2027 | Eligibility sift, then reading committees | Chevening timeline |
| Mid-February 2027 | Shortlisted candidates told | Chevening timeline |
| March to April 2027 | Interviews; reference letters due 7 working days before your interview | Chevening timeline / references page |
| Mid-June 2027 | Results | Chevening timeline |
| 8 July 2027, 17:00 UK time | Deadline to hold at least one unconditional UK offer | Chevening timeline |
| Sept/Oct 2027 | 2027-28 scholars start in the UK (first 2 ABL scholars) | Chevening timeline + announcement |
| August 2027 | Applications for 2028-29 (incl. ABL seats) expected to open | Announcement; exact dates not yet published |
| 2028 | 2028-29 scholars begin study | Announcement |

Planning tip: Chevening’s own pattern is an August opening and an October closing, so the 2028-29 window will probably be short (about two months). Treat the exact Pakistan deadline as not announced until chevening.org/scholarship/pakistan shows it.
Who Is Eligible (Official Chevening Rules)
- Citizen of Pakistan (a Chevening-eligible country).
- An undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s, completed at least two years before the application deadline.
- At least 2,800 hours of work experience after your undergraduate degree (about two years full-time at 35 hours a week; up to 15 employment periods can be listed).
- Apply to three different eligible UK master’s courses and hold at least one unconditional offer by the offer deadline.
- Be ready to return to Pakistan for at least two years after the scholarship.
- Not eligible: British or dual British citizens; people living in the UK when applying; staff of the UK government, British Council or partner universities (and close relatives) in the last two years; earlier holders of a UK-government-funded scholarship.
- The course must be full-time, master’s, starting in autumn. Part-time and distance learning are excluded.
There is no upper age limit on Chevening’s “who can apply” page.

What a Chevening Scholarship Covers
Chevening’s official FAQ lists the following. We have not found an ABL-specific benefits list, so assume the standard Chevening package unless ABL or the British High Commission says otherwise.
- University tuition fees
- Economy flights to and from the UK (for you only)
- Arrival allowance and departure allowance
- Visa application cost (for you only)
- Up to £75 for TB testing, if required
- A travel top-up allowance
- A monthly living allowance (higher in London than elsewhere; reviewed every year)
Amounts are not given on the official page, so we do not quote a stipend figure.

Step-by-Step: How to Apply (When the Next Round Opens)
Open Chevening eligibility and the online application guidance. Check your work hours: weeks worked x hours per week.
Go to chevening.org/scholarship/pakistan. When the round is open, the “Closed” status changes and the Pakistan deadline appears.
Choose three different full-time courses that begin in autumn. For ABL focus areas, courses in AI, cybersecurity, digital transformation, economics or financial inclusion fit the announced priorities.
See the next section. Draft in a separate document, then paste into the form.
Names, job details and contact details of two referees.
The system closes at 11:00 UTC on the deadline day: convert that to Pakistan time (UTC+5 = 4:00 pm PKT) and submit a day early.
Reference letters must be uploaded at least seven working days before your interview. Interviews are held in Pakistan by the British High Commission.
Apply to your three universities early. You need at least one unconditional offer by the offer deadline (8 July 2027 in the current cycle).
The 4 Essays and the AI Ban
Chevening asks four questions, each testing a specific quality:
- Examples of your leadership and influencing skills
- Examples of building professional relationships to achieve positive outcomes
- How your chosen course gives you the skills to address pressing challenges linked to UK priority areas
- How your career plan supports your ambition to drive positive change
AI rule: Chevening states that using AI software to generate answers is strictly prohibited, that applicants confirm on the form that they did not use it, and that it uses tools to detect plagiarism, fraud and AI-generated answers. Write from your own real examples.
The official pages tell you to “take note of the word limits”, but we could not read a numeric limit on the guidance pages. Check the limit on the live application form.
